1. Overview
SECRETEUNION ("SECRETEUNION," "we," "us," or "our") operates a community-submitted directory of skate spots. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site or submit a spot, why we collect it, how it's protected, and what choices you have. It applies to secreteunion.com and any pages or subdomains we operate.
By using this site or submitting a spot, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. Information we collect
Information you submit
When you submit a spot through our form, we collect:
- Coordinates and location text you provide for the spot.
- Spot type (rail, ledge, gap, bank, stairs, manual pad, DIY).
- Photos of the spot. Photos are automatically stripped of embedded metadata (such as GPS location and device information) before we store them, for JPEG, PNG, and WEBP files. HEIC/HEIF files are currently stored as uploaded — most mobile browsers convert HEIC photos to JPEG automatically before upload, but if you're concerned about metadata in a HEIC file specifically, convert or re-save it as a JPEG or PNG yourself before submitting.
- Account name, only if you choose to provide one — this is optional and is not verified against any identity.
We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other contact information as part of a spot submission.
Information collected automatically
To prevent abuse, we may derive a cryptographically hashed value from your IP address at the time of submission (not your raw IP address). This value is designed so it cannot practically be reversed back to your original IP address, and it is used only to detect and rate-limit abusive submission patterns — never to identify or contact you.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Review, moderate, and (if approved) publish spot submissions on the public map.
- Prevent spam, abuse, and automated submissions (via bot verification and rate limiting).
- Maintain a record of prior submissions to detect duplicates.
- Operate and improve the site generally.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. What becomes public
If a submission is approved, the coordinates, location text, spot type, photos, and account name (if provided) become publicly visible on the map to anyone who visits the site. Submissions that are rejected are not published, but are retained internally (see Section 6) for moderation records and duplicate detection.
5. Third-party services
This site relies on a small number of third-party services to function:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores submission data (Cloudflare Pages, D1, R2, and Turnstile for bot verification). See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Mapbox provides the map tiles used on the Map page. Loading the map sends a request to Mapbox's servers. See Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts serves the fonts used across the site, which involves a request to Google's font servers. See Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not run our own analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. Any cookies or local storage used by Cloudflare Turnstile are set by Cloudflare for bot-detection purposes, not by us.
6. Data retention
Pending submissions are retained until reviewed. Approved submissions remain public until removed by us or by request. Rejected submissions are retained for moderation records and duplicate detection; you may request deletion at any time (see Section 8).
7. Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect submitted data, including bot verification and rate limiting on submissions, restricting access to unapproved photos and submissions to authorized reviewers only, stripping location metadata from most photo formats before storage, and using industry-standard hosting infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of information you've submitted by contacting us at spots@secreteunion.com. Please describe the submission (location, approximate date, and any details that help us find it) so we can act on your request. We'll respond within a reasonable time.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law (for example, the right to data portability or to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority). Contact us and we'll do our best to accommodate applicable requests.
9. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn that we've collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
